Both programs provide a true core curriculum experience, emphasizing the great works of the world’s leading cultures from antiquity to today. The integrated curriculum moves across disciplines and takes you outside the traditional classroom to experience the world's classic works in person.
Liberal Arts Learning
The hallmark of Liberal Studies is the commitment to small classes, where faculty and students work together to forge a learning community. Liberal Studies classes are discussion-based, no larger than 25 students, and taught by faculty that are experts in fields from human rights to creative writing.
As a Liberal Studies student, you will take advantage of the unparalleled academic, social, and locational resources of NYU, one of the world's leading research universities.
Liberal Studies also emphasizes pedagogical technologies, place-based and experiential learning, and faculty and student mobility throughout NYU’s unique global network. Few other schools in the country, and none with so many home cities throughout the world, offer a program that examines the great works through a global perspective. Whether you begin your studies in New York City or at one of our global sites, you will be fully engaged in Liberal Studies' vibrant learning community as you build a solid foundation for success in our changing world.
