When I had initially applied to NYU as a senior in high school, I was looking for an experience that would allow me to grow while also providing the support and tools to succeed -- I found that within the Global Liberal Studies program. I was amazed by the flexibility that the GLS major provides with the necessary structure to equip me with the tangible abilities to prosper in this ever-changing world. The GLS program was the only one to offer me the chance to spend my entire first year away in London-- something that deepened my independence and knowledge of myself.
As an NYU student, I have been able to pursue countless opportunities relevant to my interests. With the Social Impact Grant, I have been able to develop a non-profit organization called LEAD Palestine, an initiative aimed to providing Palestinian youth in refugees camps the necessary leadership skills to achieve great success within their own communities. During the Summer of 2016, I was awarded a fellowship with the Muslim Public Affairs Council through their Congressional Leadership Development Program where I was able to intern with Congressman Andre Carson in Washington, DC. The sense of community, advising, and international focus of the Global Liberal Studies program has allowed me to find and foster my passions in ways I couldn't have predicted.
