Sophomore Global Study

As a Core Program sophomore, you will have a unique opportunity to study away from Washington Square for one semester of your sophomore year. Most students choose to study away in the fall semester of their sophomore year through the Fall Away academic program. This program is exclusive to LS and allows you to take your required courses at either NYU Florence or NYU Washington, DC, to maximize your study away opportunities and explore new fields while maintaining progress toward your degree.

Note: GLS students are required to spend the fall and spring semesters of both the sophomore year and the senior year in residence on Washington Square in New York.

Fall in Florence

If you choose to spend your fall semester at NYU Florence, you will participate in an intellectual and cultural community that explores the intersection of history and current affairs. You will take required LS core curriculum courses and may also take introductory courses in Economics, Politics, and Psychology, or electives in other majors such as Art History and History.You will participate in field trips throughout Italy and in the high-level political, social and cultural programs held on campus. Learn more about NYU Florence.

Fall in Washington, DC

Spending your fall semester at NYU Washington, D.C. puts you in the center of America’s political and cultural hub. You will take required LS core curriculum courses and may also take introductory courses in Economics, Environmental Studies, Journalism, and Politics. You will also have the opportunity to earn credit through an internship with one of many government, NGO, corporations, and arts organizations in the city. Learn more about NYU Washington, DC.

Additional Sophomore Study Abroad Opportunities
