For the 15th consecutive year NYU will commemorate Dr. King’s visit to NYU, and his impactful legacy, by hosting a week-long schedule of special events.
The highlight of the week will be the NYU MLK Week University-Wide Event on Thursday, February 6th. Tarana Burke, advocate & founder of the 'me too.' Movement, will speak in conversation with Dolores Huerta, founder & president of the Dolores Huerta Foundation; and activist, social entrepreneur & founder of Voto Latino, María Teresa Kumar. The conversation will be moderated by professor & director for the Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality at NYU, Dr. Gayatri Gopinath, as our speakers discuss the impact of Dr. King's legacy, and those who furthered his mission.
Dr. Deborah Willis, University professor and chair of the department of photography & imaging at the Tisch School of the Arts, and director of the NYU Institute of African American Affairs and Center for Black Visual Culture, will receive the 2020 MLK Humanitarian Award.
