Professors host prison writes in writing class

Professors with visitors to writing class

Jessica Hall, Executive Director of Prison Writes, and two former inmates, Justin Corney and Rafael Carrera, visited with two LS writing classes to discuss the importance of the craft. Writing professors Tim Tomlinson and Nina d'Alessandro welcomed the guests for a reading and discussion concerned with life before and after time spent in Rikers Island and state prisons, and the role of writing in their rehabilitation and re-entry. The students, all in Writing I, were honing writing skills with themes such as gentrification and personal narrative.
