Jessamyn Hatcher, Ph.D., co-authored "Make What You Love: Homework, the Handmade, and the Precarity of the Maker Movement" with Thuy Linh Nguyen Tu, associate professor in the Department of Social and Cultural Analysis at NYU. The article investigates the rise of the "Maker movement" in the United States, using an artisanal lifestyle company that hand-produces garments in Florence, Alabama, as a case study.
The essay appeared in the Fall/Winter 2017 issue of Women's Studies Quarterly, which centered on the theme of "Precarious Work."
Hatcher and Nguyen Tu also co-teach a GLS senior seminar that is cross-listed with Social and Cultural Analysis.
