Rochelle Almeida, Ph.D., published Britain’s Anglo-Indians: The Invisibility of Assimilation with Lexington Books in April 2017.
This book examines the cultural experience of Anglo-Indians, those of mixed British and Indian ancestry who settled in Britain following India’s independence. Using archival research, ethnography, and literary and cultural analyses, Dr. Almeida investigates the initial migration of Anglo-Indians and their decades-long experience of assimilation. Having conducted meticulous ethnographic field research amidst the community in Britain over a decade, Dr. Almeida provides evidence that immigrant Anglo-Indians remain on the cultural periphery after more than half a century.
Dr. Almeida was awarded the NYU Provost's Global Research Fellowship and spent the Fall 2016 semester at NYU London, completing work on the book's manuscript.
On September 16, the Pequot Library of Southport, Connecticut, hosted a Book Release Reception.
