Congratulations to LS Clinical Assistant Professor Leo Douglas, who was selected for Jamaica’s most prestigious scholarly honor: the Musgrave Medal award for Distinguished Eminence in the field of Science. The award ceremony took place in Kingston, Jamaica on October 10th. Professor Douglas, who has held leading roles as scholar, program manager, and educator in the Caribbean biodiversity conservation community for over 20 years, will be recognized for his contribution to the study and management of birds and for his ongoing scholarly work to change the relationship between people and wildlife in the Caribbean. Professor Douglas co-founded The Conservation Leadership in the Caribbean Fellowship Program (CLiC), an organization that provides fully-funded scholarships for under-represented youth working to conserve biodiversity in the Caribbean and in Latin American nations with a Caribbean coast. He is the immediate past-president of BirdsCaribbean, the largest international NGO focusing on the conservation of birds and their habitats within the greater Caribbean region.
