Affiliated Professor Francesca Ferrando’s new book (Introduction by Rosi Braidotti), “Philosophical Posthumanism,” (Bloomsbury 2019) is written as questions and answers which offer readers a clear navigational tool to understand the posthuman era. It describes the radical bio-technological developments, where human enhancement, designer babies and sentient Artificial Intelligence are the next frontiers. The text explains why the notion of 'the human' in the 21st century is in need of urgent redefinition and why we, as a species, have always been posthuman.
Kevin Warwick (Emeritus Professor at Coventry and Reading Universities, UK), who is considered the first human cyborg, states: "In this stunning book Francesca Ferrando paints a clear and inspirational picture of the future of humankind."
Prof. Ferrando says, “These topics are deeply appreciated by Liberal Studies students… Learning about the ethics of the latest development of emerging technologies and bio-technologies allows them to understand in deeper ways the society we are part of, to enter the global conversation on social change, multispecies justice and co-existence from a standpoint that is well prepared to answer the questions related to our evolving humanity."
