While based in Bombay, India, on a Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship, Dr. Rochelle Almeida was invited to teach at Alisher Navoi'y University in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on the Fulbright Regional Travel Program. In an intensive week-long schedule of classes in April 2019, Dr. Almeida taught courses on travel writing to two batches of freshmen and sophomore students in the Department of Modern Languages. Her workshops focused specifically on travel writing for social media, blog posts, and informal peer-interaction. The Workshops were organized in conjunction with the US Embassy in Uzbekistan and the Fulbright Commission. They were coordinated on campus by Prof. Nozilya Normurodova. As this was the first time that the university hosted an American Visiting Professor, the Dean of the University, Prof. Sayfullayev Anwar expressed his gratitude to Liberal Studies at NYU and the US Fulbright Commission for bringing basic writing courses to Uzbek students for whom English is a Foreign Language.
