Liberal Studies congratulates Professors Alicia L. Gleason and Hagai M. Segal, the 2020 recipients of the Liberal Studies Teaching Award for Global Site Faculty.
The award recognizes faculty members teaching Liberal Studies students at the study away sites for their excellence in teaching and commitment to global pedagogy in the LS curriculum. Honorees exemplify excellence in the interdisciplinary, global and decentered teaching, distinctive of both LS Core and GLS, and help LS students connect to the global/local environment. Nominations were submitted by students, and reviewed by a selection committee.
Alicia L. Gleason teaches Writing at NYU DC. She earned her MFA in Fiction from George Mason University in 2014 and has taught at NYU since 2015. Her short stories and poems have appeared in Cleaver, Oblong, and Cactus Heart.
"Alicia is a professor that is student-centered more than anything else. I feel personally challenged, engaged and inspired in her classroom. Above all I appreciate that Alicia is able to recognize the exchange occurring: we as students learn and grow and her as a writer and person learns from us.”

"Professor Segal is by far the most engaging and knowledgeable teacher I have ever had. His discussions in class are always interesting, and he strikes the perfect balance between lecturer and facilitator; encouraging students to bring their own ideas and experiences into the class and bridging the gap between these experiences and the subject material.”
