Even before your first year begins, you will get to know Liberal Studies and NYU through several orientation and welcome events. LS Orientation brings together new students, returning students, faculty, and staff before classes begin and during the first few days of the semester to prepare you for the academic year.
First-Year Orientation

As a first-year student, you will have a designated academic advisor and be part of an advising group composed of other first-year students in LS. You will navigate orientation with your advising group; and together you will learn more about the academic mission and values of Liberal Studies. Through these advising groups and orientation events, we hope you will establish important and lasting relationships with your peers in LS.

Over the course of orientation, you will have opportunities to explore New York City with student leaders, gain insight about what makes a successful LS student, join a student organization at our club fair, participate in a service project, attend information sessions about academic and co-curricular opportunities, and much more! Some of past students’ favorite events include the NYU Reads Summer Reading Discussion, our marquee event LS After Dark: A Night at the Brooklyn Museum, and the Day of service.

Our student leaders are upper-level students, who have been selected through a rigorous application and interview process to mentor incoming students. Student leaders support orientation and, throughout the academic year, develop meaningful programming, outreach and communications for first-year students.
NYU WELCOME
In addition to LS Orientation, you will participate in NYU Welcome, NYU's annual program for new students. Scheduled concurrently with LS Orientation, NYU Welcome hosts hundreds of events for new undergraduate students. Events range from informational sessions about NYU and NYC to student resource fairs, social outings, and marquee events such as Drag Bingo, NYU Portraits, and the Presidential Welcome!
NYU MOBILE APP
To navigate both NYU Welcome and LS Orientation, you will be invited in August to download the NYU mobile app, an app available via smartphone and the web. NYU mobile app includes a calendar of all NYU Welcome and Orientation events, allowing you to create your own customized schedule. You can also use the NYU mobile app to find contact information and social media for NYU and Liberal Studies.
We look forward to meeting you soon!
