When I first heard about Global Liberal Studies, I couldn’t have imagined a better program for me. In high school, I spent time in India volunteering, teaching English, and taking classes, and I developed ambitions to work in diplomacy and become an ambassador. The opportunity to continue my study abroad and intertwine my love of politics, philosophy, and language is exactly why I wished to attend NYU!
With all of the support that the GLS program and faculty gave me, my ambitions are becoming reality. I spent my freshman year in Florence and my junior year in Paris, where I worked closely with the director of a think tank in developing my senior thesis on Roma Integration in France. In between, I held internships that range from an embassy in Seattle to an NGO in Delhi. Throughout, I gained further proficiency in Hindi, German, Spanish, Arabic, Italian, and French.
Since graduating from NYU in 2012, I earned my master's degree in South Asian Culture and Politics from King’s College London, and I went on to work in two think tanks in India: PRS Legislative Research and Observer Research Foundation. Currently, I am a journalist for the International Affairs Forum and am applying to PhD programs, where I will focus on Food Safety and Security in India. Without GLS I would not have developed the confidence or skills I would have needed to achieve all that I have so early in my career. Faculty members from GLS still support me to this day, and I wouldn't trade my experience at NYU for anything!
