In an attempt to bolster food security at NYU, the Liberal Studies Service Ambassadors established the Violet Pantry in 2020. It is a student-run food pantry open to all members of the Liberal Studies and Global Liberal Studies community. It is stocked with non-perishable foods and fresh produce, as well as personal hygiene products and books. The hours of operation are provided below.
The Violet Pantry
Since opening, the Violet Pantry has provided food to hundreds of students, as well as fostered bonds with the LS Community. It importantly has provided students with easy access to resources whilst also educating students on methods to combat food security.
If you are searching for additional information or resources to combat food insecurity, please refer to NYU’s Food Accessibility Assistance. If you are curious what items are consistently available at the Liberal Studies Violet Pantry, please refer below.

As a Student
If interested in staffing the LS Violet Pantry, students can contact ls.service@nyu.edu. Most students who staff the pantry are Liberal Studies Student Ambassadors (LSSAs). Service Ambassadors participate in a year-long program partnering with organizations across New York City to promote awareness of social issues and service opportunities.
If interested in contributing to the Violet Pantry, students can also participate in the many food drives hosted throughout the year within Liberal Studies or they can donate to the Rising Violets’ Violet Pantry fund.
